Food Safety
Through our relationships with food donors, volunteers, and nonprofit partners alike, we work hard to ensure that all donated food is safe and ready to eat, while maintaining the dignity of each donation and delivering food with respect to all who may benefit from it.
Food safety and the quality of our donations are our top priorities.
We’re proud to uphold the highest possible standards of food safety:
All of our operations staff are FoodSafe certified.
All our food rescues are monitored in real time to ensure the food is in transit for less than an hour.
Our donors are all food retailers that are licensed and observe the highest levels of food safety practices in their establishments.
All of our volunteers undergo an innovative mobile food safety training program.
We follow Food Banks Canada's Food Safety Guideline on donations.
In addition, the BC Food Donor Encouragement Act (1997) ensures liability protection of all food donated in good faith.
