Tractor Foods, Vancouver Food Runners Food Donor

VFR: Tell us about yourself and the role you play at Tractor.

Meghan Clarke: My husband and business partner, Steve, and I started Tractor Everyday Healthy Foods in 2013. Our first store is located in Kitsilano on West 4th and we now have 10 stores in Vancouver, Victoria and Toronto. My role at Tractor is to lead the Marketing and Branding team. Right now, we are focused on branding our new Tractor At Home business and promoting it through digital advertising, social media and those who share our values within the community. Over the past eight years, we have done lots of learning about the food industry and now living through COVID we have pushed hard to learn even more about the food delivery business. While this year has been a huge challenge, we are excited about the opportunities ahead.

How did you get involved with VFR and what drew you to us?

Vancouver Food Runners is an incredible organization that helps so many individuals in our community. We’re honoured to be part of VFR and are drawn to this organization because we share the goal of minimizing food waste while giving back to those who are hungry and need food. VFR is professional and easy to work with and uses technology to bridge this gap in our community. We feel fortunate to have VFR in the community!

Tell us about how the restaurant/food industry has been affected by COVID and why you decided to give back.

This has been a devastating year for all restaurants. We have experienced everything including store closures, team layoffs, non-existent sales, etc. It has been an emotional roller coaster. But this year has also made us become stronger restaurant operators. At this point, we feel positive and more optimistic now that vaccines are being distributed and the spring weather is here. We are putting our energy into launching our new business, Tractor At Home (TAH). TAH is all about delivering meals directly to homes. With most people working from home this past year, we were forced to pivot and focus on how to bring everyday healthy meals directly to consumers. We have developed over 150 new recipes and feel excited about the opportunity to make healthy meals even easier!

Partnering with VFR and giving back is so important to us because we have been humbled by the support of our community this past year. We appreciate that our customers often go out of their way to support us by stopping by our stores and bringing Tractor into their homes. We are so grateful and want to give back by donating food when possible.
