Food Safety

At Vancouver Food Runners, food safety is a top priority. We are committed to ensuring that all rescued food is handled with care, meeting the highest safety standards. From pickup to delivery, our processes are designed to keep food fresh, safe, and ready to nourish the community.

Food Safety Guidelines

Pickup & Delivery Standards

Food donors ensure that surplus food is fresh and stored properly before pickup. All our food rescues are monitored in real time to ensure the food is in transit for less than an hour. Our goal is to keep food donations hyper local, with most rescues taking less than 10 minutes between businesses and recipients.

Safe Handling

All of our operations staff are FoodSafe certified. All of our volunteers undergo an innovative mobile food safety training program.

Donor Practices

We follow Food Banks Canada's Food Safety Guideline on donations. Our donors are all food retailers that are licensed and observe the highest levels of food safety practices in their establishments.

With these guidelines in place, we can confidently connect surplus food with those who need it most, while maintaining the trust of our donors, partners, and community.
